It was a rainy morning, so we slept in a bit. Finally got up at 7:30. We packed some, then walked over for breakfast at convenience store next door.

We finished packing up and took off. Our first stop was back at the convenience store for gas, then we drove back to Somesville to take advantage of the solid overcast.

Autumn road Village Bridge, Somesville, ME

The photo on the left above shows what a portion of the drive to Somesville looked like. The photo on the right shows another view of the Village Bridge in Somesville, ME.

Harbor at Somesville, ME Chrysanthemums

The photo on the left above shows the marina at Somesville with the flower boxes in the foreground. The flower boxes lined the road bridge next to the Village Bridge. The photo on the right shows some of the chrysanthemums planted in the flower boxes.

Then we drove to the Acadia National Park Visitor’s Center, which is a number of steps above the parking lot.

Then we were on our way home. We had lunch at Belfast, ME - clam chowder again - the worst we'd had the whole trip. And we spent the night at a Comfort Inn in Auburn, MA. Dinner was at Chuck’s, a local Mexican/steak house. However, it had an excellent salad bar. We crashed early.

We were up early - it's our longest driving day on the return trip. We had breakfast at the hotel, finished packing, and continued our way home.

Autumn trees in fog

It was a chilly morning. We ran into fog near Worcester, NY. The photo on the right shows what we saw at the rest area near Worcester. I drove some, but feel very sleepy, so Carl drove more than his share today.

We stopped for lunch at a family restaurant in Lenox, PA. Yuck! I dozed most of the way through Pennsylvania. We checked into the Comfort Inn in Winchester, VA for the night. Dinner was at the Backseat Bar & Grill - 50's type theme. Carl had burger and fries. I had a fajita salad. Not bad! By the time we hit middle Pennsylvania, the temperature was back in the 80's and low 90s.... It sprinkled some while we had dinner and there was a small squall in upper Pennsylvania.

Wednesday October 10, 2007

Evidently this was a very memorable day - I have absolutely no notes about it! If I remember correctly, we had lunch at an Arby's north of Abingdon and were home by shortly after 2 pm. Carl drove over and picked up the mail that had been held and I started getting stuff put away. By dinner time, we were exhausted, so we had a small dinner, hit the hot tub (how can we pack that for the next trip???), and went to bed early.
