We slept in on purpose this morning. As a result, we missed the moose that walked through camp. Diana was on the satellite phone with her daughter in Italy when she saw it! After breakfast (scrambled eggs and raspberry muffins), Carl and I tried kayaking. He's a good instructor. He had me get in and out of the kayak while it was on firm ground first. Then we practiced the paddle motion. Finally, he set the kayak in the water and I waded out and got in. I knew I packed those sandals for a reason... The lake was dead calm when we started, which was a big advantage. I really liked kayaking! Especially with the calm lake. It was easier than I thought it would be. Fortunately, the Camps have sturdy kayaks - the kind made for lake kayaking, not the skinnier ones that are used for white water kayaking. I had heard that one of the first things kayakers should learn was how to roll the kayak, but these were almost impossible to roll. And the opening didn't have a "skirt", so rolling them was a bad idea... About the time we reached the vicinity of Polliwog Stream's outlet into the lake, the wind picked up just a little. We would be paddling against it to return to the dock. It wasn't hard, but it did take a little more work, especially in steering the thing. We were out for about an hour. Very enjoyable! The five photos above are proof that I did go kayaking.... About 11, I had my one on one with Eddie. We talked about this and that. Nothing important. It was more a visit than a consultation. We had lunch at the picnic table in front of our cabin before taking off for some shooting. We walked up to Polliwog Stream and shot abstract reflections for a while. The photo on the left above is an attempt to capture the sparkles of reflected sunlight on the surface of the lake. The photo on the right is the driveway to the camp, lined in autumn colors. The photos above are all autumn reflections in Polliwog Stream. The photos above include cascades with autumn reflections. All were taken at Polliwog Stream. In the photos above, there's a leaf caught on one of the rocks that the water is cascading over. I liked the sheeting action over the leaf. Then we walked back to the cabin to relax for a while before dinner. Diana took one of the kayaks out for a while and took her camera along. The photos above show Diana in her kayak. We ended the day with drinks at Adrian, Mary, and Margaret’s cabin before dinner (broccoli soup, salmon, wild rice, green beans, chocolate cream pie). After dinner, we started a camp fire. One of the others tried to get some camp fire singing going, but most of us had never heard of the songs she was suggesting. I recognized Kookaburra, but couldn't remember many of the words. By the time I finished my shower, I had remembered three verses and couldn't get the tune out of my head!!! We talked around the camp fire for a while, then Carl and I left for showers and bed. |
