We missed the alarm this morning - the clock was on pm and the alarm on am... We still got up before dawn. I shot around the lake until it was time for breakfast. There was a light, misty fog on the lake. The photo on the left above shows what the lake looked like that morning, with the trees reflecting in the water. The center photo includes one of the motor boats pulled up on shore. The photo on the right shows the boats pulled up onto shore in front of the main lodge of the camp. The photo on the left above shows some lakeside grasses and rocks. The center photo shows an autumn leaf that has fallen on the surface of the water over some submerged moss. The photo on the right shows the two adirondack chairs located in front of our cabin and their view of the lake and the autumn hillside beyond. After breakfast (blueberry pancakes and link sausage), we got maps of the area, loaded up our lunch stuff, and headed out. We started by hiking up the Nature Trail until it met the Red Trail. Then up the Red Trail until it intersected the main road. The photo on the left above shows one of the unusual plants we found on our wanderings. This one was on the Nature Trail. The photo on the right shows some mushrooms (fungus) on the side of a tree. From there, we found the Appalacian Trail section that runs along Rainbow Stream. Here, we found lots of cascades and leaves. We continued up this trail until it started diverting from the stream. At that point, we ate lunch by the banks of Rainbow Stream, then turned back. The photo on the left above shows some of the many cascades found along Rainbow Stream. The center photo shows some leaves swirling past me on Rainbow Stream. The photo on the right above is farther upstream than the one on the left. The photo on the left above shows some maple leaves caught in a branch of a fir or hemlock tree with a cascade of Rainbow Stream in the background. The photo on the right above shows more cascades and leaves on Rainbow Stream. We returned to our cabin via the sled dog kennels. We got them all barking... Angel and Don have 23 sled dogs, which are put to work pulling sleds during the winter months. I walked back along the lake shore to reshoot some shore stuff I had seen this morning, using a polarizer. It helped. I've got to remember to take it with me more often... The photos above show the same patch of moss that appears earlier on this page. We sat on front porch with cups of tea and talked for the remainder of the afternoon. About 6, I retreived the cheese we had left in Eddie's refrigerator and cut it into slices to share with the group. We took the cheese, crackers and wine to lodge about 6:20. The wine and cheese went over well, especially the one from Three Blind Moose winery. It was bought for the name... There was a small photo sharing session before dinner (turkey/rice soup, salad, ham, chocolate cake, more cinnamon rolls) and lots of talking during dinner. After dinner, we hit the showers, played one game of cribbage, then went to bed. There were lots of stars out tonight. |
