Dad and I headed out to find a couple of waterfalls along Hood Canal Road. We found the first one, Fall Creek Falls, without a problem. However, it almost wasn’t worth the effort. A thin ribbon of water coming off a cliff way over there...

The second waterfall was closer to Brinnon. We found the right road (I had bought a book on waterfalls of the Pacific Northwest and we were following their directions) and were tooling along when we found a truck parked in the middle of the road. We parked and went to see what was going on. The road had washed out. Completely. The entire road as far as we could see was gone. Found out later that it had washed out in 1999 and the environmentalists weren’t allowing it to be rebuilt.... The truck belonged to some bikers who had come out for a ride and picnic.

So we backtracked to the third waterfall. We found it readily enough, but the best shots were from the other side of the stream and I had worn sneakers that day. I was going to come back another day with my boots, but ran out of time. Next trip. I got one shot there, but didn’t really try for another. Besides, my bladder was about to burst. Dad had found a tree, but there were too many people around for me to look for one... So we found a small café for lunch and I headed for the Ladies Room...

Dinner that evening included more family. One of the girls is a high school student and hasn’t had much exposure to manners. I came close to smacking her a couple of times during dinner. At one point (she was finished eating), I almost asked her to pass the butter and sour cream (neither of which I really wanted) just to keep her from making designs in them!!! We played dominoes after dinner. I wasn’t unhappy to see them leave.

Today was a quiet, sunny day. We spent most of the afternoon in the yard, pulling weeds, of course.

I packed up and loaded the rental car up for the trip to Seattle. I left shortly after lunch, which was in Port Townsend with Mom and Dad. I got off the ferry and to the hotel before rush hour traffic really started up. Well, I would have gotten to the hotel sooner if the roads weren’t so poorly marked. I had to backtrack twice and still don’t know where I went wrong. Next time I think I’ll forget about following 99 back to the airport from the ferry and just follow the signs to I-5. Much less confusing.

I had made arrangements to have dinner that night with someone I knew in Seattle. We had a nice meal, and I went back to the hotel for a night’s sleep. Then on to the airport on Saturday morning. It was a quiet, uneventful flight home.
