Everyone decided to sleep in this morning. I got up at my usual time, as I knew better.... I felt a bit off my feed, so I skipped today’s jeeping. I didn’t think diarrhea and slick rock (exposed rock with no cover anywhere) would mix... So, I stayed in condo and grazed, read, and vegetated... The others went off to Fins and Things and Hell’s Revenge (two jeeping trails near Moab) and wound up taking the long way back. Jenny’s camera broke when she dropped it on Hell’s Revenge. She used our point and shoot for a while. The photo on the left above shows the trail snaking across the slickrock, delineated mostly by the tire marks left by other jeep drivers... The center photo shows Carl's rental jeep ready for the trail. The photo on the right shows Jenny and Jim pointing out the trail ahead as Jessi looks on. The photo on the left above shows Jessi, Jim, and Jake looking at tadpoles in a sinkhole. The center photo is looking back at the town of Moab from the slickrock. The photo on the right has a dinosaur footprint in it! When I first saw the photo on the left, I had to laugh - so which way does the trail go? Actually, they had parked on a bluff to look at the Colorado River far below (the remaining two photos). Take a look at tomorrow's photos - I think we managed to find a place on the river similar to that shown here and took some photos looking back up at the bluff... The photo on the left above shows Jenny scouting out one of the obstacles on Hell's Revenge. From the look on her face, she's just broken her camera... The center photo shows another view of this obstacle. The photo on the right shows Carl ready to go! This and the rest of the photos this day were taken by Jenny with our camera. The three photos above show Jim taking his jeep through a "hot tub" on Hell's Revenge. Hot tubs are steep sided sinkholes, usually with water in the bottom of them. Carl didn't attempt this one... The photo on the left shows Carl driving along one of the narrow ridges on Hell's Revenge - the track is just wide enough for the tires to stay on the road. One slip and you tumble over the edge. The photo on the right shows Jessi taking Jim's picture standing in another obstacle. They decided to pass on this one... Carl and Jim went off to clean up the jeeps and return the rental. We all went into town for a while. We spent some time in a T-shirt shop where I picked up a couple of pins and a pretty t-shirt. They didn’t have my size preprinted, so I watched them print one up just for me! They stretched the t-shirt onto a form, then slid it into an oversized inkjet printer where it sprayed the design onto the shirt. Neat! I also walked over to the Post Office to mail the bills I had written yesterday. Then we wandered around another, more high end souvenir shop. Nice stuff. Nice prices, too... Dinner was take out from Pizza Hut. While we were waiting for the pies to cook, we wandered around another shop. They had a nice light orange shirt that I really liked (and it had sunscreen built into it!!), so I bought it. We took the pizza back to condo to eat. And everyone crashed early... |
