Tuesday, October 3 We spent some time getting stuff packed up for our return flight. Then took some photos of the lobby area from the second floor before heading out for breakfast. These two photos show different views of the lobby of this historic old hotel. . . . Breakfast was at the coffee shop across the street. I had egg bites - very greasy. We wandered Hollywood Blvd a bit and looked at more of the hand and foot prints and such at the Chinese Theater before taking the short tour. The guy leading it needed to speak up more. He seemed to aim his whole spiel at Kelly, so the other two women on the tour missed a lot of it, I'm sure, as they trailed Carl and I. The photo on the left above shows the hand and foot prints of the main cast for the Harry Potter movies (Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint). The center photo shows one of the lamps hanging from the ceiling of the lobby of the Chinese Theater. The photo on the right shows one of the ceiling light fixtures found in the lobby of the theater. The photo on the left shows the curtains for the screen of the theater. These rolled back at one point in the tour and we watched a short film about the history of the theater. The most recent modification to the building expanded the screen area so it can show IMAX films. The photo on the right shows the ceiling of the theater itself - looking straight up. Then we walked back across the street to our rooms to finish packing. We took the bags downstairs and left them with the porters while we wandered out to the pool area. The photo on the left shows the pool area of the Hotel Roosevelt. This is where Marilyn Monroe had a cabana and lived for two years when she was just getting started. Our room was about half way up the newer tower (background). The center photo shows a beach ball floating in the pool near one end of the pool. The photo on the right shows Carl posing with a statue of Charlie Chaplin while we waited for our Uber to arrive. We grabbed a bite of lunch at 25 Degrees (here in the hotel). After lunch, we retrieved our bags and summoned an Uber to LAX. While we were waiting for the Uber, I took a picture of Carl sitting with Charlie Chaplin. This statue was located in the drop off area at the hotel. We had a much easier time getting through check-in than our last trip to LA. You say our carry-on is too large??? Nope. We pulled out one item and it fit perfectly. The disgusted agent who tried to stop us finally let us through. We promptly added the item back to the bag. We got through security and TSA checks fairly quickly. Much more quickly than DIA. Then we awaited our plane. Boarding went smoothly, then we were off on the way home. Despite being in first class, they served lousy dinners for all three of us. First class has sure gone downhill. Also United no longer passes out blankets on request. Don't know the reasoning there. It was a bumpy ride back to Denver, but we were soon on the ground. We found our luggage readily, then searched for the ParkDIA pickup bus. We asked a couple of places, and got sent to the wrong place. We finally consulted the directions that came with the original confirmation. Door 504. Okay - where was door 504? It was closed in behind a bunch of construction stuff... So we went out 502 instead and backtracked to where 504 was, across to island 3 and there he was. The first bus was too full for all three of us and our 5 bags. So we waited for the next one, which quickly filled. We were soon back at our car and loaded up for the trip home. Kelly had ear problems, so I repeated her phone's directions for the route - that reminded us both of the movie Galaxy Quest. We were soon in familiar territory, so the phone got turned off while we went by the grocery store for minimal requirements - milk, bread, and bananas. We finally got home about 9:30ish. We unloaded car and I unpacked the minimum amount needed to get to bed. Once we got home, we took some Covid tests. The results were positive, but the tests were outdated. We would repeat them in the morning with fresh ones. Note: same result the next morning. That explains the feeling bad the last few days. So, we canceled a doctor's and a dentist's appointments for the next two days. I slept quite well that night. |
