On August 3, my friend, Julie, took Pam and I to Pike Place Market in Seattle. I hadn't been there in many years and Pam had never been there before. We took our cameras along (of course) and had a very, very good time. These are some of the things we saw there.

Pepper strings, Pike Place Market Pepper strings, Pike Place Market flower baskets, Pike Place Market

The photo on the left above shows some strands of peppers and garlic that were for sale. They were sold as ornamental strings. As the vegetables dried, they took on some very interesting shapes. Some of the ones displayed were 2-4 years old. These are newly strung. The center photo provides another view of these strands along with one of the booth vendors. The photo on the right above was taken from a rooftop restaurant across the street from Pike Place, looking at the baskets of flowers that line the roof of Pike Place. The edge of one of the restaurant's umbrellas frames the top of the photo.

Loback Meat sign, Pike Place Market Fresh salmon, Pike Place Market Tie dyed long johns, Pike Place Market

The photo on the left above includes a neon sign for Loback Meat Co., a Seattle landmark. It also shows how popular Pike Place Market is. The left side of the market is mostly flower stalls while the right side contains booths with everything from souvenirs to meats to vegetables to fresh pasta to fresh fish. The center photo shows some of the salmon available at one of the fish stalls. The photo on the right above shows some tie-dyed long johns for sale, one of the more unusual items I spotted this day.

Handwoven material, Pike Place Market Parking garage, Pike Place Market The original Starbucks, across from Pike Place Market

The photo on the left shows some hand-woven items offered for sale. The one on top is a small bag for carrying a cell phone, ipod, or other small items. The photo in the center shows the parking garage near Pike Place. The photo on the right shows, according to our local guide, the original Starbucks!

Dahlias Mixed flowers Mixed flowers

The remainder of the photos on this page are from the extensive flower booths at Pike Place Market. They can't convey the heady, almost overwhelming aromas that accompany the large number of tubs full of cut flowers. They can but hint at the extensive selection of cut flowers available here on any given day. The photo on the left above is full of dahlias. The center photo contains a mixture of flowers including dahlias, gladiola, and mums. The photo on the right contains another mixture, dominated by dhalias and asters.

Mixed dried flowers Cosmos Mixed flowers

The photo on the left above is an arrangement of dried flowers and everlastings. The center photo contains cosmos. The photo on the right is dominated by a sunflower and dahlias.

Sunflowers Sunflower Sunflowers and garzania daisies

The photo on the left is a grouping of sunflowers. The center photo is a single sunflower. The photo on the right above contains sunflowers and, I believe, garzania daisies.

Sunflower and bells of Ireland Mixed flowers Sunflower and phlox

The photo on the left is a sunflower with some bells of Ireland. The center photo has mixed flowers featuring cosmos, sunflower, dahlia, and gladiola. The photo on the right features a sunflower and garden phlox.

In the photo above, my friend, Julie, looks over a sampling of fresh flowers available at the Pike Place Market, trying to decide what to shoot next?
