Forest trail 'Weeping' alder Burl

The photo on the left above shows part of the Trail of Shadows near Longmire. The center photo shows a section of alder bark which appears to be weeping because of the initials a thoughtless person has carved into its bark. The photo on the right shows a section of a burl, which is a rounded outgrowth on a tree trunk or branch that is filled with small knots from dormant buds (definition courtesy of wikipedia).

Fungus and dewdrops Tree stump close-up Tree stump close-up

The photo on the left above shows an unknown (to me) fungus growing on a tree. The shape of this fungus and the abundance of dewdrops condensed on the underside of them attracted my attention. The two photos to the right are a stump at the side of the Emmons Vista Trail near the Sunrise Visitor's Center.

Trees along the shore of Reflection Lake Tree stump

The photo on the left above shows some of the trees along the shore line of Reflection Lake. The photo on the right above is a twisted tree stump.

Bark abstract Bark abstract Bark abstract

We spent part of one afternoon playing with abstractions, mostly by panning the camera as the shutter was depressed, purposely blurring the resulting image. The three photos above are basically the same piece of tree bark with the camera moved progressively faster each time.

Meadow abstract Meadow abstract Meadow abstract

The three photos above are abstracts created by "panning" the camera - moving it in a vertical (first two) or horizontal (right photo) direction while the shutter is open. These were all made where a meadow meets the forest on the Trail of Shadows near Longmire.
