Saturday, October 15, 2016 Now I see why the previous occupant of this room pulled the plug on the alarm clock. On battery, it can't be read with the lights off. Plugged in, it doubles as a bright night light. Out comes the plug again... We packed up and left after breakfast. On to Moab, UT, with stops along the way, including a Lake Powell overlook, a Glen Canyon overlook, and the Needles overlook into Canyonlands. Lake Powell is very low. The photo on the left shows one of the marinas of Lake Powell from the Wahweap Overlook. . . . An event was taking place at the Glen Canyon Dam, which made the bridge one lane for quite a while. It looked like a walk/run event for one of the cancer drives, perhaps. So, we didn't stop at the top of the dam. We continued on to an overlook area nearby. The photo on the left shows the Glen Canyon Dam from downstream. The photo on the right shows the Colorado River continuing down through the canyon below this point. We picked up a Subway sandwich before leaving town, hoping to find a pullout spot to eat at later. We did find one, but the traffic behind us was too heavy for us to turn into it. So, we wound up pulling over at the side of the road just beyond Kayenta. Just before arriving in Moab, we made a small side trip to the Needles Overlook into the Canyonlands National Park. It's a dusty road out to this overlook. The photo on the left shows a glimpse of the Colorado River as it flows through this deserted area. The photo on the right shows another view of Canyonlands from this overlook. We checked into the Best Western Canyonlands. Grossly overcharged for this room so we are cutting our stay here short - we had planned to stay two nights, taking in parts of Canyonlands and Arches in between. We'll come back to Moab another time. It's Saturday night and the streets are crowded. Over a half hour wait for a simple pizza and beer. Too many people. It was a lousy room next to the pool. Um, no. Home tomorrow. |
