Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008 We discovered that we had an extra half hour each morning, so I reset the alarm for 6:30. Much better. After breakfast, we headed out. Carl dropped me at the Workshops then headed for the ski area again. Later, he told me that there was absolutely no wind at all at the top of the mountain. Very nice. Waiting for class to start, I called the Albuquerque hotel to see if my charger had been turned in to Lost and Found. I thought I remembered having it in Albuquerque. He said he'd call me back after talking with the head of housekeeping. I gave him my cell phone number and headed for class. We spent the morning editing yesterday's shooting, then watching each others photos from yesterday. I felt intimidated.... Patrick had some nice things to say about mine, but I still felt insignificant. Then we discussed copyrights. There was just time for a group photo before lunch, which had more lively discussions. Before heading for lunch, I called the Albuquerque hotel again. My charger wasn't in Lost and Found and they were still trying to locate the person who serviced the room the day we checked out. Today was her day off. He promised to call after talking with her. After lunch, we had more lessons, including seeing the results of a $400,000 photo shoot and the results of a low budget shoot. Both were great in their own way. Patrick had more resources for us - websites to keep an eye on to keep up with the business, lists of smaller stock agencies, how to contact stock agencies, and more. It was 2:30 before we knew it! I called Carl to tell him I was ready. I caught him just seconds after he had settled into the hot tub at the motel.... While waiting (it was beautiful outside by afternoon), I called two different camera shops in Santa Fe to see if they had a charger in stock. The second one did and they'd hold it for me. So, once Carl arrived, we drove straight there and I got a second charger. Now I hope my memory was wrong - I had woken up at 5 convinced that I remembered holding the charger while in Albuquerque. I hope it was left at home, so that I now have a spare.... From there, we drove back to the hotel to get my small camera bag, then headed for the National Cemetery. Fascinating place! The three photos above were taken at the National Cemetery and show some of the ways the individual graves were decorated, some for Christmas, some for Valentine's Day. The three photos above were also taken at the National Cemetery and emphasize the patterns the gravestones make. Then to the train station to play with some of the trains stored there. The three photos above were taken at the train station. The photo on the left shows the sign on the roof of the train station. The center photo shows the decorated window of a dining car parked at the train station. The right photo has my favorite model (Carl, of course) boarding one of the passenger cars. The two photos above were also taken at the train station. A similar photo had been shown in class earlier today and it was wondered what the scene would look like if the person were walking and the camera panned along with them, making it look like the train was moving instead of the person. Carl must have walked close to a mile whle I took picture after picture of him. The one on the left above is early in the series, before I asked him to try not to swing his arms... The photo on the right is the most in focus one I got from the whole series. Just around the corner was an old movie theater that had some glass blocks for part of the wall. It's also a cafe! The photo to the right shows part of the wall of glass bricks. The sky was becoming increasingly overcast, so I thought that the sunset would flop, so we put up the gear and headed into Tomasita's (nearby). Good meal! And good margaritas. And we had a table by the window so that we could at least watch the absolutely gorgeous sunset..... Back to the hotel to download photos and get the battery recharged. This evening, there was another instructor's presentation at the campus. The first was extremely arty. I didn't get it at all.... Then Patrick showed a set of images that were shot from the hip. Very nice! Eddie Soloway was there also. Said hi, then went back to the hotel to finish my homework, check messages, and update this journal. Time for bed. |
