We ate breakfast with the Sunday paper at IHOP, something Carl likes to do while on the road, then back to the hotel to finish packing. We checked out about 10:45 and headed north. We arrived in Santa Fe way too early to check into the hotel (tried, but the room just wasn't ready). So, we stopped in Borders to pick up a local road map and navigated our way to the Santa Fe Workshops class location, then reviewed the route to the ski area. Back to town and a late lunch at Souper Salad. It's okay, but it's not Sweet Tomatoes.... By then it was late enough to check into the hotel. We got settled in there, then drove over to the Workshops again to check in there. That was fast.... Dinner at Quail Run. We had dinner with some of the people I'll be sharing a classroom with this week. Patrick, our instructor, was at our table, also. Long hair and a beret..... Looks like an interesting group. We had our first "get acquainted" meeting. Back to hotel for the night. Work starts tomorrow.... Monday, Feb. 11, 2008 We got up at 6. Breakfast was adequate here at the hotel. We need to remember to take a banana downstairs with us tomorrow.... Carl dropped me off at the Workshops then he went skiing at Santa Fe Ski Area. He skied half the day, then came back to town to await my call for a ride. It was an intense classroom day today. Lots of notes, mostly on the history of stock photography and why it's not doing so well at the moment. We also looked at everyone's photos. I'm in very good company - all are fantastic photographers. Of course, if they weren't, they wouldn't be here... They had troubles getting Patrick's notebook to work with the projector. It finally started working after lunch. Lots of PowerPoint slides... Class let out about 3:30. The rest of the day was time for shooting, if we so desired. I called Carl and my chariot soon arrived. I took a couple of photos at the Workshops while waiting (like the photo to the left, which shows an outside wall of the Workshops offices, a downspout, and a cottonwood tree). My head was spinning from all the information it had received today, so I didn't take any more pictures. Instead, we returned to the hotel and hit the hot tub. We had dinner at Santa Fe Baking Company and Cafe. It was okay, but nothing to write home about. Not to be repeated... We then drove back to the Workshops for some instructor presentations - meant to inspire. One was great. One was boring. And the third was okay, but long winded... Back to hotel where we both crashed. |
