The two photos above show the snow sculpture Memories from My Youth which is Team Ontario's entry in the Budweiser International Snow Sculpture Championships in Breckenridge, CO. These were taken while they were working on this one. The photo on the left shows one of the team members working on the sculpture and the photo on the right shows a different angle on the sculpture. The colorful hanging on the left of these photos is actually a sailboat sail hung to shade the sculpture from the heat of the sun. This sculpture was awarded second place. This puzzled us at first, but the reasons became clearer once we were able to view the other side of this creation, something that was impossible on our first trip, when the sculptures were under construction. The three photos above show the sculpture as it appeared on our second visit. The center photo shows the intricate detail in the hair and the comb. The photo on the right begins to hint at the reason this sculpture was awarded such a high award. The three photos above show some of the detail from the back of this sculpture and reveals the rest of the story involved. This elegant Japanese woman holds many memories from her youth in the back of her head, including memories of her childhood visiting a tea house near Mt. Fuji and the babbling brook flowing under a stone bridge nearby. These are depicted here. The center photo shows the whole picture. The photo on the left shows the inner view of the tea house and Mt. Fuji. The photo on the right includes the bridge and babbling brook. The photo on the left shows a close view of the fantastic cherry blossoms that appear around this sculpture. These are located inside, near the depiction of Mt. Fuji, but others appear in her hair and near the brook. Quite impressive. |
