The comforter on the bed was too heavy, making it hard to move around, or even roll over without waking all the way up. I asked the maid to take it off this morning when I saw her. So, I lay there debating whether to get up or not, realized I wasn’t sleeping, so went ahead and got up. I drove back to Rialto Beach, which is only four miles away. It's another day of misty rain, so I left the camera in the trunk and just walked on the beach. I walked for about an hour, then went back to car. That was good for the body and soul. By then, my glasses had so much rain on them I couldn’t see much anyway.... I ate breakfast in the cabin - the lodge delivers a breakfast basket each afternoon for the next morning and breakfast can thus be eaten whenever you want it, which is nice. Then I went over to the main lodge to meet with others and get some hot tea. We had a quick review of previous Natural Eye information. By the time that was finished, it was noon, so I ate the rest of my breakfast for lunch - it was a big breakfast! I spent some time that afternoon walking the nature trail here at the lodge. Not bad. I only took the point and shoot with me. I may return later with the big camera. (Later edit - never did get back to this trail) The fern frond on the left is one of the pictures I took on this walk. Then I drove to over to the Sol Duc area and hiked out to Sol Duc Falls. It's about a mile hike from the parking lot to the Falls. Despite the drought currently going on in the Olympic National Park, the Falls are still running full. And the rain held off until I got back to my car. The three photos above are three different views of Sol Duc Falls. The one on the right is taken from the bridge shown in the photo on the left. From there, I headed back to the cabin for a while, then in to Forks for dinner at The In Place. I had soup (a very good corn chowder) and a simple salad, then headed back to Rialto Beach. The three photos above show a driftwood log which had developed a series of burls before it died. It looked like someone had strung some beads down the trunk, however, this trunk was close to 18 inches in diameter (at the straight section)! The five photos above shows waves breaking over rocks, attempting to show motion. The first three are one series, taken fractions of seconds apart. The bottom two are also taken close together. The photos are not black and white, but they appear grey because of the overcast this day. The three photos above show the north portion of Rialto Beach with a large piece of driftwood in the foreground. The "branches" here are part of the root system. Both of these pieces of driftwood are taller than I am. Once again, I walked on it for a while until the mist got too heavy, again. I stuck my camera under my jacket at that point and trudged back to the car. I got back to cabin about 8 and settled in for the night. |
