Saturday, July 11
I slept in until about 7:15. I woke with the remains of a too much wine headache. So, I drove back out to Rialto Beach. It’s still foggy there. The fresh air dissipated the rest of the wine effects. So, I shot photos of wave movement and rocks. The three photos above show sections of Rialto Beach that are pebble strewn with waves flowing over the pebbles. I was playing with wave movement for these. . These two photos show some of the patterns left in the sand as the tide flows around the heavier pebbles on the beach. . I walked over to the breakwater at the south end of Rialto Beach, where the outgoing tide was still breaking over the large rocks, and set up my tripod so the camera was aimed at this large rock with a barnacle on it. Then I just took picture after picture at slow speed to catch the motion. These six photos were the ones I liked the best. Then I drove back to the cabin for breakfast and to download photos. I worked up four of them for today’s show and tell. The group met at 11 again today. Two members of our group are leaving today, soon after the meeting. I talked with two others for a while, then drove over to the University of Washington's Natural Resource Center, which has a short nature trail. It was an okay walk (about a mile in length), but nothing to write home about. The very audible drag races at the foot of the hill didn't help the serenity any. From there, I went back to the cabin. I dropped off the camera gear and grabbed my book to head to Rialto Beach for a while to read and relax accompanied by surf, while I still had a chance. Surprisingly, it was still foggy and very cold at the beach. I had left my jacket in cabin as it was sunny and nice and a very comfortable temperature there. I lasted less than half an hour, then drove back to the cabin for my jacket. That bought me another half an hour on the beach, but even that wasn’t enough to handle the penetrating wind. I soon gave up and returned to the cabin Dinner was catered again tonight. An elegant tomato and mozzarella salad started the meal. Delicious halibut over couscous with asparagus and a piece of pineapple. Dessert was a fresh fruit yogurt sundae. Another delicious meal. I stayed up way too late, then said my goodbyes and hit the sack. |
