I got up as usual and ate breakfast here in the restaurant. We drove across the river (to the Washington side) to a place with lots of wildflowers and a corral - nice location. The three photos above were taken at this nice meadow. The photos to the left and center show portions of the corral. And the photos on the left and right show the profusion of flowers at this site. The three photos above were also taken at this meadow. The photo on the left shows a spire of lupine against a fence post. The center photo shows a group of arrow leaf balsamroot against a corner of the corral. The photo on the right has some backlit lupine with a yellow wildflower in the foreground. We continued on to a state park (Dalles Mountain State Park) for a little while (and a potty break). These two photos were taken at Dalles Mountain State Park. They had a fine collection of old farm equipment around the back of the barn, including the moldboard plow shown to the left. The photo on the right shows the fence of one of the corrals and an old wagon with the nice clouds we had today. These two photos were also taken at Dalles Mountain State Park. The photo on the left shows old and new barbed wire around a fence post indicating that the fence here had been repaired many times. The photo on the right has a rusted chain around a fence post. It was securing one of the gates. . Then we continued on down that road some more to another flower site, still on the grounds of Dalles Mountain State Park. The three photos above were taken at this new site. All three depict lupine buds. The photo on the right includes an old fence post. The three photos above were taken at this same location. The one on the left shows some arrow leaf balsamroot and lupine with the rolling hills around Dalles Mountain State Park in the background. The other two photos are closeups of arrow leaf balsamroot. From there, we drove back across to the Oregon side to an old schoolhouse. The three photos above show some of the photos I took here. The one on the left shows the front of the schoolhouse. So does the center photo, plus some of the other photographers in our group. The photo on the right zooms in on one of the old windows. The photo on the left was taken through the hole left by a missing door knob into the old schoolhouse. Then we returned to hotel for lunch and to gather photos for the afternoon session in Terry and Julie’s room. We shared photos taken during the trip so far. Everyone’s photos were different! I need to revisit some of these places - where did they see that???? After the picture show, we went back out for a while in the late afternoon on the Oregon side of the gorge. We stopped next to another orchard and, just outside the car door, was a nice stand of teasel seed heads. The photo on the left shows one of them. for the photo on the right, I got to playing with something I had seen in the show and tell this afternoon and zoomed the lens while taking a close shot of the apple or pear blossoms. Interesting effect... On our way back to the hotel, we spotted this diner near the river in Mosier, OR. We pulled off and cameras jumped out of the cars! One in our group said that was a terrible waste of an old Porsche... Then we headed back to the hotel to prepare for dinner. In 20 minutes, I managed to download images, label them, back them up, shower, check email, and check phone messages... Whew! Then back to the parking lot to meet for dinner at the Baldwin Saloon. Very nice! I shared a table with Terry & Julie and John Shaw. It was a very nice evening. I had a stuffed avocado (one half stuffed with shrimp, one half stuffed with Dungeness crab meat). Yum!!! However, I drank too much wine.... The Saloon had a very good piano player, too. There was a lot of photography business discussed at the table this evening. No, Julie, I wasn’t bored... Then back to the hotel. I attempted to dilute some of this wine before bed. Will I be successful???? Sort of.... |
