Sunday, January 5

We had breakfast at the hotel around 8.

Then we went back to the rooms to finish packing up and we checked out around 9:30.

While checking out, Kelly mentioned the loud band outside her window the night before, so management took 10% off the total for both rooms. That was nice.

Kelly called for a Lyft. He overshot the hotel and had to back up... Why do they accept rides for three people plus large suitcases (it was in the memo) with smaller cars??? We crammed in and quietly rode to the airport.

Which terminal? Seems Delta has two... He dropped us off at the first one, which was the wrong one, so we walked about half a mile to the other one.

We finally got checked in with no further problems. We were through security quickly and probably gave our infections to everyone around...

The waiting area served several gates with inadequate seating. There wasn't really any place nearby for lunch. We really weren't hungry, but wound up snacking a bit.

We were also way too early for our flight, so we had a bit of a wait... Finally, we got on board for an uneventful flight back to Denver.

We reclaimed our luggage and found the ride to the parking lot. The bus was completely full. Groan.

We finally got to the car – we were almost the last ones off the bus. The driver tried to fit our suitcases in the back of the Forester, but that's a Chinese jigsaw puzzle – it only goes together one way. We got them sorted and drove home.

I think Kelly was on autopilot most of the way, she was feeling so bad. I reminded her that we planned to stop by the grocery store for soup and bread and breakfast stuff. She wasn't completely aware where we were... But we were quickly through the grocery store and on our way again.

Soon we were home. We all crashed early after a light dinner.

This crud lasted for another week for me. Even longer for both of them. Carl was still showing signs of it a month later. And it wound up triggering pneumonia for him.
