Saturday, December 28 It was a long day today. I got up about 5:30 am and finished packing. We headed for airport in a snow storm, so it took about 10 minutes longer than usual. Thankfully, Kelly avoided all the jerks in their multi passenger pickups that thought they knew how to drive in snow - they kept skidding and spinning out. We got to the parking lot at the airport, which is huge, and wound up parking against one of the outside fences. A friendly shuttle driver took us straight to the airport building. We soon found our way to the baggage drop line, despite all the construction going on in the terminal, and finished the check-in process. Then on through security and on to the gate. Once again, we had gotten Pre-check tickets, so security was a lot easier than it used to be. Due to the snow, the plane arrived at the gate almost an hour late and still had to deplane before we could board. Instead of a 12:16 flight, we left the gate at 2:00. Then we had to wait our turn for the de-icing process. And they were spacing planes farther apart than usual for take-offs. Because of the delay, we took the time to eat lunch there at the airport at Snarfs – very good sandwiches. Finally, we were on our way. It was a fairly uneventful flight, a little turbulence, but not bad. I spotted the Grand Canyon and Lake Mead out the window. There were a lot of people traveling with dogs today. Doesn't anyone check them through any more??? There was even two in our section of the airplane. Why??? We arrived in LA a little before 4 pm local and finally found the shuttle to the hotel (the directions we were given were abysmal!). However, check-in went smoothly. Kelly's on the fourth floor and we're on the third. Now, what shall we do about dinner???? We wound up eating at the lobby bar (Costero's). There's nothing else really within walking distance of the hotel this tour is booked into. After drinks and dinner, we went back to our rooms to crash. I was asleep before 7:30 local time.... |
