Tuesday, January 30 Today is our 47th anniversary. I slept much better last night. I finally found one of the pillows wasn't a brick. That really helped. After breakfast in the Lodge restaurant, I had a slow morning packing up - we're changing hotels again. There was a small class on exposure with Eric at 9:30. Our luggage had to be outside the room by 10:45. Checkout time was 11. We all put our “carry on” stuff in the luggage check near the front door while we ate lunch (at the Lodge restaurant again). Lunch was at 11:30. Then we boarded the coaches about 12:30. The drive to Mammoth took a little longer than expected as the road conditions were terrible – there was lots of wind mixed with blowing snow and some falling snow. Even the snow coaches were sliding off the road in a couple of places - not ours, but a couple of others. We made it to Mammoth about 3:45. Our shuttle bus to the motel in Gardiner was due at 5. It showed up at 5:30... Our dinner reservation was for 6:15. So, it was a drop our stuff in the rooms and dash back up the hill for dinner time. Luckily, they got suitcases distributed to rooms in time – barely. Dinner was at Yellowstone Mine (a steak house) just up the hill from the motel. I had BBQ chicken with veggies and rice pilaf. It was pretty good! Then we walked back to our rooms for the evening. Tomorrow, the Lamar Valley. |
