Petroglyphs near Una Vida Pueblo, Chaco Culture National Historic Park, NM

This photo shows some petroglyphs located a short, steep hike above Una Vida Pueblo. Petroglyphs are "pecked" into the canyon walls, usually where the canyon varnish is thickest. Canyon varnish is a mineral deposit which stains the top layer of the sandstone, usually a rich mahogany color.
