Detail, Fontana della Barcaccia, Piazza di Spagna, Rome, Italy

This photo shows some of the details of the Fontana della Barcaccia. Barcaccia means leaky, old, worthless boat, and this one lies half submerged in its pool. This fountain is found in the Piazza di Spagna and was designed by either Gian Lorenzo Bernini or his father Pietro. Because the pressure from the aqueduct that feeds the fountain is extremely low, there are no spectacular cascades or spurts of water.
