Tawny Owl butterfly (Caligo memnon (Brassolidae)) dines on a rotting banana

This photo shows a Tawny Owl butterfly feeding on an extremely ripe banana. It posed for the longest time. In fact, it was still in the same place when I passed back by fifteen minutes later. Must have been a good banana! Another tawny owl butterfly shares the banana. That's not a snake menacing the butterfly, but a second tawny owl butterfly with its wings closed.
