Leaving the drapes open may have been a mistake. I was awake several times during the night and, because it wasn't dark in the room, I thought it was time to get up. But the clock said it was 2:30, 3:30, 4:27, etc. Finally, it said 6:15 and I gave up and got up. Mom, at the balcony, enjoying Glacier Bay Marilyn, at the balcony, enjoying Glacier Bay

These two photos were taken on the 13th in Glacier Bay and show Mom and I enjoying the view and the pleasant temperatures on the balcony of our stateroom.

Today, we're cruising into College Fjord, the same fjord we were in on Sunday. Of course, this big ship can't get as close to the glaciers as the smaller one did, but I got up to the sight of ice chunks floating by. I did my exercises and yoga, then got dressed and went to breakfast. I found a better route to the eating end of the ship. From here, take the stairs or elevator to deck 6 and walk along the starboard side of the ship. Deck 6 has some lounges and the casino on it, so the starboard side has nice wide aisles with outside windows for most of the length. As a result, the trip doesn't seem as far.

Instead of the buffet, I had the sit down breakfast - orange juice, cereal with banana, danish (yum), and tea. I was seated at a table for two that was quite close to another table for two which was next to a window. The waiter opened the curtain liners so that we could watch the water and ice going by. The fog is obscuring most of the mountainsides. The two ladies at the adjoining table were nice table companions. Very interesting.

I got my tea refill to go and wandered around for a while, locating most of the entertainment places and looking in shop windows. Mom was still asleep when I came back.

I grabbed the computer and found the wireless connection. It's only active in a few places on the ship. I was on deck 7 near the Atrium and the connection was low quality and very slow. But sufficient to eventually get the email taken care of. I was in the Crooners Lounge - the theme is the Rat Pack and it has pictures of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and company - and had a cup of tea while working.

Back to the room for a while, then to the buffet line with Mom. She had brunch and I had lunch. She was still tired and achy, so we went back to the room. I spent some time shopping, picking up a few souvenirs. The polo shirt I had picked up was a bit snug, so I went back to the gift shop to exchange it.

I definitely got in my exercise today. Each trip out involved walking the length of the ship. We were in open water all day, so I could feel a slight swell underfoot. Not bad, but still there. I don't feel queasy, but did have a headache that Tylenol couldn't handle.

Mom spent some time laying down with her thermofor on her leg. It delivers moist heat, which really helps. Then at 3, we walked forward again to meet Mom's friends, M and G. They were all on the Panama Canal cruise together about eight years ago. We met in the Wheelhouse Lounge for drinks and conversation.

After about an hour, we split up to prepare for dinner. Tonight is one of the two formal nights. It's also meet the captain night. So we got cleaned up and walked back to the Atrium for some very weak punch drinks and canapes before dinner. Never did see the captain, but we were told he was on deck 5.

The maitre d' came through with our requested change in dinner arrangements. We did get the first seating that Mom had requested months ago. However, our table is right next to the kitchen. It's a table for six. Our table companions include a mother/daughter twosome (J and C) from Austin, Texas, and a married couple, both retired accountants (M and K), from New Jersey. Thanks to Mom, the table soon started talking. The only seats left when we arrived were in the center, across from each other. C mentioned as we were leaving that she was glad to see us arrive - things had been looking bleak, conversationwise....

After dinner (salmon), Mom headed for the casino and I headed for the Princess Theater for the evening show. It was an Australian singer/trumpet player who has performed in Las Vegas. It was a decent show, but a bit loud. I returned to the room when it was over and crashed. Mom came in about an hour later, after losing her allotted money in the penny and nickel slots. Took her almost three hours to lose it all .
